Addams Family Pinball Machine by Bally
It is believed that the Addams Family pinball machine was the top-selling pinball machine in the 1930s. It has sold 20270 units. Made through Midway (under its Bally name), It is a solid-state electronic game. It was built on the film with the same title and has custom speech (primarily drawn from the movie) by the film’s leading actors, Raul Julia and Anjelica Huston.
The game card of the machine explains the game’s objective as to “Explore the bizarre realm of Addams Family.” In keeping that in mind, no goal is specific to each player, but there are two primary goals:
- The Mansion, The Mansion Addams Family Mansion, is situated in the middle of the field and features the capacity of 12 “windows.” Each window represents an individual room for which players can enter and be awarded the prize.
- Vault Multiball: At the upper-right corner of the playing field, there is a bookcase in blue that Gomez displays to Uncle Fester during the film. Its hits award letters from the word “Greed.” When the term is complete, as in the movie, it turns the bookcase into a shooting position, showing the vault in the back of that bookcase (it is possible, but not typical for a ball into the vault when the bookcase is placed in block position). The vault shot secures the ball in place for future multiball usage. The bookcase can also be opened into the vault other times during mini-games, with different results and scores.
